The estimate leads to the budget preparation, which leads on to the project budget, then the actual quantities and costs and so on\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-31f310887a5483c520dd1da5f45db1fb\">Estimating in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.ifs.com\/2022\/09\/the-digital-future-of-construction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">construction<\/a>&nbsp;is the process of assessing all the costs of a project to create a forecast of how much it is going to cost to build a structure for a project. The purpose of this estimate is for use by contractors when bidding for projects. This is one of the most important steps in the early stages of any project. But why exactly is estimating in construction important?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f8d795523d036da67785901fec59811b\"><strong>Winning the right projects:<\/strong>&nbsp;Accurate estimations allow you to do this. Bid too high and you lose the contract, bid too low and you lose money<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3f692a5350d7d2b0efb4bdc57dc641c6\"><strong>Enabling project control:<\/strong>&nbsp;Estimates are the basis of creating a budget for the project, if the estimate is inaccurate then so will the budget. An inaccurate estimate will also negatively impact the ongoing project cost control and the initial project resource plan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-aebfb70631f17cf3fe556227d09410c3\"><strong>Lessons learned:<\/strong>&nbsp;You need to be able to measure the accuracy of your estimate, if it was accurate then you know your methodology is correct. However, if the estimate was inaccurate you need to be able to identify why:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-618161e150fc95d72ead0ea90512e130\">Lack of scope?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-941b0df7587d24214a8dd2ce73056add\">Wrong quantities?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9ba0eec9243e3c0cbb4d2264a97515b0\">Incorrect rates?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a5248bad9b70d330a92ffb220147495f\">Accurate estimates will improve your whole business performance.
