And if the word makes you think of dusty shelves, warranty parts, or \u201csecond best,\u201d it\u2019s time for a mindset shift.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3 wp-block-paragraph\">At a recent IFS webinar, a panel of experts broke down the challenges, business drivers, and enabling technologies behind modern remanufacturing. Their message was clear \u2013 if you\u2019re in discrete manufacturing and not yet on this journey, you\u2019re missing out on profit, performance, and long-term advantage.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Climbing the Value Hill, Again<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5 wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine a product\u2019s life cycle as a hill. You start with raw materials, manufacture, distribute, and use the product. Traditionally, once it wears down, it\u2019s scrap.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6 wp-block-paragraph\">Remanufacturing changes that. Remanufacturing significantly reduces these costs by reusing existing materials.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-13\"><strong>Customer<\/strong>: Buyers get high-performance, warrantied products at a lower cost, offering value comparable to new items.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-14\"><strong>Planet<\/strong>: Remanufacturing processes can lead to substantial energy savings and significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions over the product\u2019s life cycle.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-15\"><strong>Why Aren\u2019t More Manufacturers Doing It?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-16 wp-block-paragraph\">Based on findings from a recent industry study Kossila referenced, only around 30% of manufacturers in Sweden and Finland currently have remanufacturing operations in place.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-17 wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not intention\u2014it\u2019s complexity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-18 wp-block-paragraph\">Four big hurdles stand in the way:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-19\"><strong>Unpredictable core returns<\/strong> \u2013 You don\u2019t always know what\u2019s coming back, when, or in what condition.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-20\"><strong>Reverse logistics<\/strong> \u2013 Getting products back from the field is harder than shipping them out.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-21\"><strong>Component mix management<\/strong> \u2013 Remanufacturing means blending old and new components with care.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-22\"><strong>Data complexity<\/strong> \u2013 You need systems that handle traceability, warranties, inspections, and more.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-23 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Technology to Tame It<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-24 wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s the good news, IFS Cloud is built to handle this complexity\u2014natively, not as a bolt-on.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-25 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s all embedded.
