To craft a mission statement, you can analyze your project charter, objectives, deliverables, and constraints. Then, you can summarize and communicate your project’s main activities, methods, and benefits in a clear and concise way.
3. Goals and objectives
Goals and objectives are measurable and realistic statements of what your project team wants to accomplish in the short and medium term. They should answer the question: What are the specific results and indicators of our project’s success? To set goals and objectives, you can use the SMART criteria: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Then, you can prioritize and assign them to your team members according to their roles and responsibilities.
4. Norms and values
Norms and values are the agreed-upon rules and principles that guide your project team’s behavior, communication, and decision-making. They should answer the question: How do we work together as a team? To establish norms and values, you can involve your team members in a discussion about their expectations, preferences, and concerns. Then, you can document and reinforce the norms and values that reflect your team’s culture and ethics.
By defining your project team’s vision, mission, goals, and norms, you can create a common framework that helps your team work effectively and efficiently towards a shared vision. You can also review and update this framework periodically to ensure that it aligns with your project’s changes and challenges.
